Suet for the outdoor “pets”

One of today’s tasks is to prepare a new batch of suet for our feathered friends. It’s an enjoyable quick thing to do while the bread is rising. It’s a mix of our own tallow, peanut butter, brown sugar, bird seed, cranberries, raisins, nuts, cereal, cooked rice…anything we happen to have on hand. It’s a hit with the chickens too.

This should keep them fed for a little while.

We hunt yard sales for old muffin tins and bowls for water dishes. Old mini tin pie pans get reused until the birds pick them apart too.

A little bird watching from the kitchen table is in order now, then get the bread in the oven.
