Basil Harvest

Our basil has taken off, some of it anyway. This is what was in the greenhouse. The outside ones are having a slow go of it.  We pinch off the tops to let the rest bush out and keep producing.

Lay the leaves, no stems, out on wax paper in a single layer. Then roll tightly.DSC_0368 Roll the wax paper bundle in plastic wrap, twisting the ends and squeezing out any air you can. This will keep your basil, or other leafy herb, fresh for cooking throughout the year. I do this with basil, parsley, and cilantro. CSC_0370

This tip came from an organic herb farmer we met at a market a few years back. Talking to random strangers is sometimes educational.

And this is still “our day off”…ha-ha, what’s that? Having fun living our life, don’t need a vacation or a day off.
